Broadcast seeding is a traditional method of planting various types of crops. In this method seeds are scattered by hand or mechanically over a comparatively huge space. It is easier, faster and simpler as compared to traditional row sowing. Most grasses, grains and shallow rooted plants are grown via broadcasting.
Broadcasting has its benefits. As compared to other seeding methods like drill seeding and hydroseeding, this one is least costly. Key reason why it is cheaper is the fact that it requires minimal labor and time. In areas where vegetation is difficult to establish, broadcasting is generally the best solution.
Lettuce, herbs, grains, carrots and beets are a few plants that work best for broadcast sowing.
